London Park Guide

If you like walking, jogging or just relaxing and enjoying the scenery, you won't be disappointed with the choice of beautiful parks in London. It is an amazing fact that over 30 per cent of London is made up of open green space and park land. The parks in London are very scenic with beautiful trees and flowers that immerse you in tranquility. What better way is there of spending a lazy Sunday morning? other than taking a stroll through one of these stunning parks.

Many of the parks in London are public places which are open all the time and admission is free. These are visited by hordes of people at the weekends - this is a social thing, especially with the locals, who like to meet up with friends, go jogging or enjoy a brisk walk. Green Park is one of the most popular because of its spectacular views of Buckingham Palace - the park is packed with tourists at the weekend and you may even spot a Japanese tourist or two clambering to take hundreds of pictures of the Queens home.

Hyde Park is notably the most famous of all London parks and is within close proximity to shops, hotels, Harrods, the Royal Albert Hall and many other attractions. The park is vast, covering approximately 360 acres, which is something to bear in mind if you are thinking of a quick stroll through it! There are many activities to be enjoyed including roller skating, fishing and boating or if you prefer, just relax and take in the breathtaking scenery. Kensington Gardens are part of the park, this is where Kensington Palace is situated. The former home of the late Princess Diana was visited by thousands of people straight after her death, many came to leave cards and flowers as a mark of respect. The Palace is still a popular attraction and attracts tourists and visitors from all over the world.

There are also some very beautiful private parks and gardens in London, these are open to the public on a daily basis for much of the year. These include Hampton Court Palace Gardens and Eltham Palace Gardens - these are really worth a visit if you get the chance. The Palaces are also open to the public for tours throughout certain times of the year. The private parks and gardens do charge an admission fee but when you think about the amount of money it takes to maintain these places of grandure with their spectacular flowers and trees, it isn't much to pay.
