LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC BID CAMPAIGN - THE FACTS

FACTS

An estimated 9 million tickets will be sold and over 500,000 spectators will commute across London every day throughout the Games.

A successful London Bid will see the erection of an 80,000 seat stadium in Stratford, East London.

The Olympic Village will be capable of housing approximately 20,000 athletes, officials and coaches.

There will be approximately 300 events, held over 17 days with around 11,000 athletes competing.

TICKETS
Over 70 percent of all tickets sold will include free travel on London Transport and will cost less than £50.

Ticket sales are forecast at over 60 percent for the Paralympics and over 80 percent for the Olympic Games.

There will be tickets on sale for the Olympic Park at £10 each - these will allow you to view the events on giant screens.

An estimated 10 million tickets will go on sale - 1.6 million for the Paralympics and 9.6 million for the Olympics.

ATHLETES VILLAGE
The dining room will be able to cater for up to five and a half thousand athletes at one sitting.

The village will have over 17,000 beds and each room will have Internet access, a television and a private courtyard.

TRANSPORT
Over 90 percent of athletes will have to travel less than 30 minutes to their events.

Over 90 percent of all the venues for the Games will be accessible by more than three forms of public transport.

There will be 2 park and rides sites in operation with a total capacity of 12,000 parking spaces.

COST
The Central Government and the Mayor of London have agreed a deal to pay half of the total bill for bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games. This is estimated at £30 million so far. A far cry from the estimated total cost of staging this spectacular extravaganza - this is estimated at a colossal £4.5 billion. Even after the income from Television rights and ticket sales, there will be a shortfall of nearly £2.5 billion, which is expected to be paid for by issuing a rise in council tax and a grant from the National Lottery.
