London Zoo first opened its door back in 1847
and has been loved since then by young and old a like. London
Zoo currently has over 600 species of animals and birds on
display, included over 100 species threatened with extinction.
London Zoo covers 36 acres
which are spread over three areas of garden linked by tunnels
and bridges. There are about 5,000 animals here in total!
Some
of the species that you may be able to see on your visit:
Hoofed mammals
Giraffes, bearded pigs, Malayan tapirs, okapis, Arabian oryx and
bongos.
Birds of the North Bank
Snowdon Aviary, owls, sacred ibis, peafowl and the Bird
Incubation and Rearing Unit.
Small mammals
Many small mammals including tamarins, sloths and meerkats,
Moonlight World for nocturnal animals, otters, aye-ayes and
tamarins.
Cats and dogs
Asian lions, tigers, leopards, sand cats, red panda and maned
wolves.
London Zoo is located at the north-east corner of Regent's Park
on the Outer Circle which is outside of the Congestion Charge
zone.
