On your approach to the Imperial War Museum you
will be greeted on the lawn by naval guns, as you enter the main
entrance you will be surrounded by military hardware, so it is a
fair assumption on first appearances to think the Museum is all
tanks and guns, however this is not the case as you explore the
Imperial War Museum you will discover a truly remarkable tribute
to all those who took part in 20th century warfare and all those
that suffered.
The centre piece
of the museum is the exhibits from the First and Second World
Wars, which amongst other things include a Sopwith Camel,
Supermarine Spitfire and a V2 Rocket.
Two very popular
attractions are the Trench Experience which transports you back
in time to the First World War and the Blitz Experience set in a
bombed out London Street during the 2nd World War
By far the most
compelling and harrowing exhibit in the museum is the Holocaust
Gallery, it took four years to compile all the exhibits which
are housed on two floors within a new section of the museum. The
displays include devastating footage of the concentration camps as well as rare objects from camps in Germany, Poland and
the Ukraine.
